Epidemiology: Periodic Leg Movement Syndrome

There is currently very little known about the epidemiology of PLMS. There is much room for many more studies to be done regarding PLMS.

Prevalence Related to Ethnicity

Not known.

Prevalence Related to Gender

PLMS appears to affect both men and women equally. Currently, there are no indications that PLMS is more common in one gender or the other.

Prevalence Related to Age

PLMS can occur in both children and adults, however, the chances of developing PLMS increase as you get older. Some studies show that approximately 34% of people over 60 years old have PLMS.
