The prevalence of type 2 diabetes and obesity are
both increasing. Because these are both major risk factors for the
development of cardiovascular disease, the prevalence and mortality
of cardiovascular disease is likely to increase. In order to
prevent this, strategies for preventing diabetes, treating diabetes
to accepted goals, and targeting associated CVD risk factors should
be implemented.
Objectives
-
Identify the key risk factors
associated with CVD
-
Discuss the relationship between CVD
risk factors and the impact they have on diabetes patients
-
Compare data on the trends and
prevalence between obesity, CVD and diabetes
-
Emphasize the importance of early
treatment/prevention of diabetes and management of associated
CVD risk factors
-
Assess the economic impact these two
disease states are having on managed care environments
